Mount Rinjani trekking on Lombok Island was a highlight of our month-long trip in Indonesia. During 3 days on the trek, we were rewarded with views of Lombok Island, a crater lake and several active volcanoes formed on top. Summiting the top of Mount Rinjani at 3,726 meters, the 2nd highest volcano in Indonesia, was a hard but very rewarding.

After nine hours of walking, walking to the next basecamp is a test of endurance. Ascending from 2,000 to 2,461 meters demands another 2-3 hours, the stunning scenery of Mount Rinjani compensating for physical fatigue. Rinjani Volcano

Lording it over the northern half of Lombok, Gunung Rinjani (3726m) is Indonesia's second-tallest volcano.
