Central Albertans can experience the province's first alpine coaster starting this Friday. The Canyon Coaster at Canyon Ski Resort, located just east of Red Deer, will officially be open as of 11 a.m. "We're really excited and have been working hard to get this open for everybody," said Robin Martel, Canyon Ski Resort co-owner.

Red Deer is home to the largest non-mountain ski hill in Alberta, the Canyon Ski Resort. Canyon Ski Resort Starting tomorrow, the ski hill will feature a new attraction, the Canyon Coaster, a 1.35 km long monorail track where you can soar down the hill enjoying the view framed by Red Deer River.

Canyon Coaster in Red Deer (1st and only Coaster in Alberta August

The coaster's monorail track is almost 1.4 km long, ranges between 0.3 to 1.3 metres above ground, and takes riders from the top of the canyon down towards Red Deer River. Martel said the few alpine coasters elsewhere in Canada can be found in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
